ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
Recently I have been painting a beach series. This involves checking the daily tide times and weather. When the sun and low tide align, I rush down to Warriewood Beach to paint, en Plein air, this particular rock pool. The stillness of the rockpool allows a pause in the constant surge of the ocean.
Alex Thorby has been a finalist in numerous Australian art prizes including the Archibald Prize, Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Salon des Refuses and Portia Geach Memorial Award. Her work is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW, Margaret Olley Art Trust and New England Regional Gallery.
