Old Manly Interior
Location: The Design Store
ARTIST: Hadyn Wilson
MEDIUM: Oil on canvas
SIZE: 51 x 40cm
ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
I completed a series of interiors in an apartment I was living in for a number of years in Manly and before I moved out I wanted to record the interior of this unique 1910’s building which was becoming slightly dilapidated. These works, therefore, were quite personal reflections on my time there.
Hadyn Wilson’s diverse art practice covers painting, public sculpture, lowrelief paper sculpture and experimenting with different mediums. Exploring the relationship between past and present, the real and imaginary, history and myth, his work observes how we connect with our environment.
Hadyn was the 2019 NSW State Library Artist-in-Residence and will be having an exhibition at the library in March 2021 along with an exhibition at ARO Gallery also in March.
A graduate of the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney (1975), Hadyn completed a Graduate Diploma of Art - Australian National University, Canberra (1992), Masters of Fine Arts (Class 1 Honours) - COFA (University of NSW) (1995) and PHD - University of Newcastle, NSW (2010).
Hadyn has had countless solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas and two major survey exhibitions in Australian regional galleries. He has won a number of prizes, including the 2011 Gallipoli Art Prize and 1988 Mosman Art Prize, and has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize (1990, 1983), Sulman Prize (1999, 1988, 1987) and Wynne Prize (2016, 1996).
His artworks are included in many respected collections including the
Australian National University, Manly Art Gallery and Museum, Manning River Regional Gallery, Mosman Art Gallery, University of New South Wales and University of Technology.
Hadyn spends his time between his studio and home in Wollombi and Sydney studio at Coburn Fine Art in Georges Heights, Mosman.
