About the Artwork

My totems are expressions of connection—anchored in the earth, yet rising to tell stories of culture and family. Each piece embodies the raw, untamed beauty of raku firing and the transformative alchemy of saggar techniques. These methods imbue my totems with organic textures, reflecting the unpredictability and resilience of life.

About the Artist

Lia is a Brazilian-born ceramic artist who lived in Africa before coming to Australia. Her work explores raku, naked raku and saggar techniques, and she also teaches art. “Clay is ancient and tactile yet it’s modern, both functional and artistic. Accepting its rhythm teaches me to accept people as they are and learn from each other.”
