About the Artwork
I paint the flower as metaphor, exploring themes of love, lust and longing. This yellow phalaenopsis orchid is inherently feminine and the shadows cast on it and by it create a sense of mystery. I associate orchids with Chinese culture; the title comes from 8th Century poet Yuan Zhen’s erotic Poem of Huizhen.
