Stephen Coburn is well known for his contemporary sculpture. He has exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions here and overseas. His subjects are derived from nature and can go from realism to complete abstract forms. The size of his work varies from maquettes and small sculptures to large constructions for outside display. Stephen has travelled extensively and his practice has developed accordingly. He has exhibited in Sculpture by the Sea in 2002, 2007 and 2009.
He won the Northbridge Art Prize in 2009 and the Mcwilliams Prive in 2011. Stephen received a Highly Commended in the Sawmillers North Sydney Prize in 2010 and The Most Extraordinary prize in the Spirit of Land Prize in 2011. A large work stands outside the Mosman Gallery. In 2008 he worked on a project in Ootha called Utes in the Paddock and in 2009 he returned to Ootha and with fellow artist and musician Jim Moginie built 'Utezilla" from the body of an FE Holden Ute with songs.
